the president's new negotiate i want aing style. it said mr. obama scattered by failed negotiations in his first term and emboldened by his re-election has shown to be a dlimp different negotiate or. the white house reminded people what the president basically campaigned on saying that everybody knew going in what they were getting re-lecting th this stifle president. does he walk with confidence of re-election under his belt and is this the way it's going to go, nor mr. nice guy approach? >> i think the president believes very strongly that we can't repeat the mistakes of the past. that going back to tax cuts for the wealthiest americans, hoping that trickles down the rest of us have failed us for well over a decade. what we need to do instead is be serious about protecting the middle class and the republicans agree with that. don't hold those tax breaks for millionaires hostage. let's reduce taxes for the middle class. that's something that we all agree on fine let's get it done. if we believe we need to make certain investments which we do to grow the economy, in infrastructure and innovation

fidel castro and barack obama. he's never been elected to anything. and -- never run for office to put his name. i'm not sure where you got that from. i've drawn parallels between places where government dominates the economy and the direction the president and some of his party want to take us, but you would goes well beyond that. not just about government dominating the economy. going to jail for access the internet coming getting beat up on the side of the church because he dared speak out against the gunman. that doesn't happen here. >> to you feel less free than you did four years ago? >> i don't know if just the right way to put it. our future economic options are being significantly diminished by some of the choices that have been made by the president and his party. out give your real world example as of federal employee i am blessed to have a chance of a federal savings account for health care. after a survey. i wish more americans had those. you know what i use that for? use to pay my copayment. when i have an accident on a golf corporate to pay for it on the care. now they c

that republicans didn't lose the argument against president obama over government in the last election. he says they didn't make it. ted cruz says that the real problem with mitt romney's disastrous 47% quote was that it accepted the notion that some people are rich. some people are poor. and that's how the pie looks. and then you redistribute among them. he's saying no. true conservatism -- and we've heard joe say this around the table -- >> absolutely. >> -- true conservatism means that everybody can do anything and that the republican party's missed that message. that's what they need to turn to. >> it's going to be interesting to see how they do that and if ted cruz becomes sort of the force in this. what do you think? what's your gut, mike? >> he's already offering himself -- he clearly wants to play that role. >> yeah. >> he said last night, i'm something that's not supposed to exist, a hispanic republican. so ted cruz is one of the most interesting parts of this reinvention of the republican party. another part of it, the new emphasis on immigration. >> yes. >> the effort to reach hispan

, or president george w. bush or president barack obama, the truth is, at the time they were elected president, we as a nation, overall, got the president we deserved at that time. now, one of the most impressive speeches i've ever heard was given by senator barack obama at the democratic convention, and i love the way he talked about america coming back as one america. not a red america or blue america but america. just one country. and it's one of the things that i drew great hope from on 9/12 delsh 2001 as people of the country -- on 9/12/2001 as people of the country gathered around, as we did in our east texas town, and we all held hands and we sang hymns and patriotic songs and you look -- i look around the circle and was deeply moved because i knew that day there were no hyphenated americans. there were just americans. and we were together. and everybody standing there in that square holding hands, we shared the love for our country. we wanted to see it strong. we wanted to see it recover from that devastating blow from people intent on evil based on hatred. well, that senator that want
